Olivia Rodrigo has released her new single, “serena joy,” globally today, August 24, following an exclusive physical debut at Analog Records in Orange County on August 21.
Written by Rodrigo and longtime collaborator Dan Nigro during sessions for her third studio album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, “serena joy” leans into a punk-inspired sound, with an urgent, protest-driven edge.
The release arrives ahead of Rodrigo’s sold-out Daisy Chain Fields festival, taking place August 29 at Great Park in Irvine, California. Rodrigo is set to perform “serena joy” live for the first time at the festival.
The track’s limited physical debut at Analog Records marked the song’s first release to fans, while also highlighting Rodrigo’s ongoing support for independent record stores. The Orange County location was selected in connection with the upcoming festival and its local community.
A portion of the net proceeds from “serena joy” will be donated to the Daisy Chain Fields Fund, which supports the festival’s charitable initiatives and nonprofit partners focused on women and girls.
