By late afternoon, the crowd at Haute Spot was already buzzing. What began as a warm Central Texas day turned into a night full of nostalgia, heart, and purpose. Emo Nite Presents: Delilah vs. Juliet was more than a concert. It was a community celebration inspired by Ryan Wheelz the Rapper, with proceeds supporting Inspiration on Wheelz to raise awareness and care for those living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
The Emo Nite DJs got the evening started by blasting all our favorite emo sing-alongs from Paramore to My Chemical Romance. Every track pulled the crowd closer until the moment the first headliner stepped out. At 7 pm, We The Kings took the stage to a roar of excitement. Frontman Travis Clark appeared grinning ear to ear. “This song is going to make or break the night,” he said before launching into “Secret Valentine.”
From the first note, their set was a rush of energy and emotion. During “I Feel Alive,” inflatable wavy-arm dancers popped up as Clark had the crowd crouch low and spring up with the beat. The lawn became a sea of jumping bodies and laughter. Then came a quiet shift. “Time is the only thing in the world we can’t make more of,” Clark said before performing “Runaway” with keyboardist Cody, creating a still, intimate moment that silenced the crowd. He followed with “Queen of Hearts,” written the day after meeting his wife, and a surprise “Mr. Brightside” cover that had every voice shouting along. Between songs, they even joked with a snippet of “Wonderwall” for a fan named Caitlyn, keeping the night playful and lighthearted. The band closed with “Check Yes Juliet,” the crowd screaming every lyric as Clark shouted, “Thank you for helping us make our dreams come true.” Their set ended around 8:20 pm, leaving the audience glowing.
As the Emo Nite DJs returned, anthem after anthem poured from the speakers, and the entire venue sang along. It felt less like a concert and more like a reunion of everyone who grew up on this music. Then, at 8:51 pm, the lights dimmed once more.
Plain White T’s took the stage to cheers that carried all the way to the back of the venue. “Good to see y’all here. This is for you,” said frontman Tom Higgenson as they opened with “Would You Even.” The band’s chemistry was effortless, sliding between eras of their catalog with ease. A cover of Fall Out Boy’s “Dance, Dance” had everyone moving again, while “The Giving Tree” quieted the energy as Higgenson shared, “I wrote this song when I was at my lowest of lows. Then I met my wife Jenna.”
As the night deepened, “Rhythm of Love” filled the air and the crowd sang together under the soft string lights. Before closing, Higgenson smiled and said, “Let’s give it up to Emo Nite and We The Kings! Was ‘Check Yes Juliet’ awesome? Should we play ‘Hey There Delilah’?” The cheers were deafening. When the first notes hit, every voice joined in, phones lighting up the venue as everyone swayed together.
The show wrapped just before 9:45 pm, but fans lingered, taking photos and soaking up the glow of what the night had built. Between the laughter, the singalongs, and the purpose behind it all, Delilah vs. Juliet became more than a nostalgic throwback. It was a reminder that music still has the power to connect, to heal, and to make nights like this one unforgettable.
