Today, Childish Gambino, the musical alter ego of Donald Glover, has released his highly anticipated fifth studio album, Bando Stone and The New World. This album, which serves as the soundtrack to Glover’s upcoming film of the same name, marks his final project under the Childish Gambino moniker and is available now via RCA Records.
Bando Stone and The New World is a 17-track album that explores themes of survival and resilience in a post-apocalyptic world. The project features a blend of anthemic songs designed to evoke a sense of togetherness and joy, with Glover stating, “No one on their deathbed is going to look back and say, ‘Thank God I avoided being cringe.’” The album’s narrative follows the character Bando Stone, who navigates a world beset by prehistoric creatures and unexplained phenomena.
The album boasts an impressive lineup of collaborators, including Amaarae, Jorja Smith, Khruangbin, Chlöe, Steve Lacy, Flo Milli, Fousheé, and Glover’s own son, Legend. Notable tracks include the lead single “Lithonia,” a rock-infused ballad, and “In the Night,” featuring Jorja Smith and Amaarae, which was released as the second single.
Glover has been actively promoting the album through various channels, including his new radio platform, Gilga Radio, where he premiered several tracks. He also hosted an album preview event at Little Island in New York, where he performed 13 new tracks from the album. The album’s release is paired with a world tour, “The New World Tour,” set to kick off on August 11, 2024, in Oklahoma City. The tour will stop in major cities across North America and Europe before concluding in Perth, Australia, on February 11, 2025.
