In a surprising turn of events, pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter has been announced as the new Saturday night headliner for the 2024 Outside Lands Music Festival, replacing hip-hop superstar Tyler, the Creator. The festival, set to take place August 9-11 in San Francisco’s iconic Golden Gate Park, made the announcement on Thursday, June 20.

Tyler, the Creator shared a statement on social media explaining his unexpected withdrawal from both Outside Lands and Lollapalooza: “i made a commitment that i can no longer keep, and that bums me out knowing how excited folks were. that is not sexy at all. please please forgive me or call me names when you see me in person”.

While Tyler’s absence will undoubtedly disappoint some fans, Carpenter’s addition to the lineup brings fresh excitement to the festival. The 25-year-old pop star has been making waves in the music industry, currently holding two of the top three spots on the Billboard Hot 100 with her singles “Please Please Please” and “Espresso”.

Carpenter’s star has been rapidly rising since her Disney Channel days, and her upcoming sixth studio album, “Short n’ Sweet,” is set to release on August 23, just weeks after her Outside Lands performance. This headlining spot at the festival comes as part of a big year for Carpenter, who also announced her “Short n’ Sweet” North American arena tour kicking off in September.

Outside Lands organizers are confident in Carpenter’s ability to deliver a show-stopping performance. The festival’s lineup now boasts The Killers, Sabrina Carpenter, and Sturgill Simpson as headliners, with Post Malone scheduled for a special country set.

For fans wanting more of Carpenter, she’ll be returning to San Francisco later in the year, performing at the Chase Center on November 9 as part of her tour.

The last-minute lineup change showcases the unpredictable nature of live music events and the industry’s ability to adapt quickly. As Outside Lands 2024 approaches, all eyes will be on Sabrina Carpenter as she steps into the spotlight for what promises to be a memorable headlining performance.
