On Thursday night, Mexican-American artist Becky G delighted fans by releasing her highly anticipated new album, “Esquinas.” The album, which she describes as a “love letter to my abuelitos, to my heritage, and to my fans,” is a celebration of her Mexican roots and a reflection of her journey as a 200 percenter, someone who embraces both their American and Mexican identities.

The album cover art features a picture of a two-year-old Becky G wearing a sombrero, braids, and a red bandana, with the word “Esquinas” repeated in a typeface that blends her childhood handwriting with her grandfather’s. This image was taken during a birthday photoshoot at a one-hour photo center, symbolizing the artist’s connection to her Mexican heritage.

“Esquinas” showcases Becky G’s evolution as an artist, transitioning from rap to pop to reggaetón, and now to música Mexicana, a natural progression for someone who has mastered the art of the crossover and the “reverse crossover”. The album was assembled in collaboration with producer Edgar Barrera and features new Mexican artists, making the creative process “as serendipitous as it can get”.

To support the release of “Esquinas,” Becky G will be embarking on a tour, bringing her new music to fans around the world. This album is not only a personal milestone for the artist but also a testament to the power of embracing one’s roots and celebrating the diverse aspects of one’s identity.
